Stark County is also home to Clearview Golf Course, the first golf course in the United States to be built, owned, and operated by an African American. The golf course opened by Bill Powell in 1948, and over 70 years later is still operated by the founder’s daughter, Renee Powell. Clearview Golf Course is one of a handful of golf courses listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
