Bender's Tavern
Overview
Since opening its doors in 1902, Bender's Tavern has been an integral part of the Canton community. Now a registered landmark, this historic tavern has attracted a wide variety of people from different walks of life. In 1932, John Jacob purchased the restaurant from its original owner, Ed Bender. The legacy of his ownership has continued through multiple generations. His son, Wilbur, took over, followed by the third generation, Jerry and Jim Jacob.
Today, the restaurant is under the guidance of Jon Jacob. Each generation has contributed to the restaurant's rich history, ensuring that it remains a beloved establishment in the community. From the original recipes to the historic, welcoming atmosphere, the Jacob family has maintained a commitment to quality and tradition. Bender’s is not just a dining venue; it symbolizes a journey through time, where classic dishes like Camp Kagel Walleye, lobster, Bender’s Fries, and turtle soup continue to delight patrons, remaining staples on the menu as they have for generations. As Bender’s evolved over the years, it remained steadfast in its dedication to quality.
Presently, the restaurant continues this tradition by sourcing fish from the Foley Fish Company in Boston, Massachusetts a relationship that has evolved over the past 60 years. With good food comes fine spirits and Bender’s offers a vast selection of creative cocktails, classic drinks, and an extensive wine cellar. Bender’s Tavern has been awarded the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for over ten years and continues to pride themselves on their extensive, value-driven wine list.
Their commitment to exceptional service, combined with the historical setting and close connections to the NFL and Pro Football Hall of Fame, truly make this establishment a unique location filled with a rich story. These cherished memories and recollections from friends, family, and guests have become a valuable treasure trove for Bender's Tavern. Over the years, they have played a significant role in enriching the spirit of this establishment and making memories with customers. The Jacob Family and the Bender's Tavern team look forward to celebrating 125 years of excellence!
