MasterWorks V: Sunday with Sibelius
February 16, 2025 3:00 PM
Overview
You can almost feel the crisp, Arctic air on your face and see the sun glistening on a vast tundra of freshly fallen snow when listening to Jean Sibelius’ first symphony, audibly influenced by life in his native Finland. At times cold and bleak while at others warm and shimmering, it is the perfect piece for a chilly, February afternoon in Canton.
First up is a concert overture by fellow 19th century Scandinavian Elfrida Andreé, whose music makes its first ever appearance in Canton at this concert. We are also delighted to showcase the talents of concertmaster Konrad Kowal, who will play Max Bruch’s romantic first violin concerto to round out the program. We hope you join us to bring a bit of warmth into your February with some sweeping Scandinavian romanticism!
• Concert Overture in D major – Elfrida Andrée
• Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor – Max Bruch
• Symphony No. 1 in E minor – Jean Sibelius
